The Newbie's Guide to RPing
Roleplaying can be a fun and immersive experience, but to make it more enjoyable for yourself and for others, you can follow this list of short and simple guidelines.
First of all, what is an RPG?
In this type of RPG, or Roleplaying Game, you take on the role of a character (in this case, wolves) and interact with one another to create a story. It is good practice for writing and creativity, but most of all it is an exciting and stimulating way to interact and make new friends.

Here are a few tips to get you started:
- When writing, make sure your spelling and grammar are readable. It can put a would-be RPer off if your posts are filled with mistakes, and it can be hard to understand what's going on. Read your posts through before posting them, and be sure to use a spell check.
- Use adjectives and adverbs to describe what is happening. For example, instead of: “The wolf walked through the forest.” change it to: “The tall, elegant wolf walked briskly and proudly through the emerald forest.” This makes it more interesting to read, and can paint a vivid picture in the reader's mind.
- Describe how your character feels about things. Try to think how their personality would affect this, and get to know your character. Not only will this make your posts easier to write, but your RP experiences will be even more enjoyable.
- You can mention possible plots to other users, but don't discuss every detail of it: a lot of the fun of RP-ing is the unexpected element of it.
- A good character is an in-depth one. To make it more challenging for yourself, you could try making your character very different from your real personality-- if you are generally a quiet person, you may like to make your character noisy and boisterous. Original characters can be a lot more interesting than stereotypes, too.
- Make an entrance. When you appear halfway through someone else's plot, or start your own thread, don't just stick for: "Wolfie walked through the woods and saw some wolves. She said 'Hello. Please may I join your pack?'". It's boring and uninspiring-- try a more imaginative first-post (for example, "Wolfie was ill. Very ill. She could barely breath, and her last meal was stirring in her stomach. She thought she could see movement up ahead amongst the trees. "H-help" she whispered hoarsly, and collapsed.") This will encourage others to reply and involve you in the story, and it also means you have an extra bit of plot to play around with.
- Post regularly! All roleplays have problems with members who appear then go away forever, and this can throw a story into turmoil, but if you keep posting it can prevent those horrible quiet moments.
- Tell your friends! The more the merrier!
- If you aren't sure about something, PM a member of staff and they will tell you what you need to know.
- Above all, enjoy yourself!
